What is a Beach Club?

🏖️ What exactly is a beach club?

Beach Club is a one-stop “adult playground” for enjoying the seaside resort space. With pools, bars, lounges, restaurants, music events, and activities, Beach Club makes your time spent at the beach exceptional. Unlike a mere beach or hotel beach, this is a new lifestyle spot that combines “socialization, relaxation, and entertainment.

🌅 Origins of Beach Clubs

The origins of beach clubs can be traced back to the 1960s in Europe, to Ibiza, Spain, and the Cote d’Azur, France. After the success of the “Sunset Party” held in Ibiza in 1972, the venue was moved to a private beach the following year and officially opened as a “Beach Club”. The following year, the venue was moved to a private beach and officially opened as a “beach club.

*Legend has it that a DJ at the time played an impromptu record that became a hit, and the next day people came from all over the island.

❓ Why Beach Club was created

Until then, there were two types of seaside fun: “public beaches” and “private hotel beaches. However, there was a need for an “open social space” where people could spend their time with more freedom, safety, and comfort. The Beach Club was born as a place to satisfy the following needs.

  • Pool area for water play without worrying about sand
  • Bar/restaurant offering a variety of drinks & food
  • Music event with world-class DJs and live music
  • Activity programs such as SUP and yoga

🎉 How to spend your time at the Beach Club

There are three main ways to enjoy the Beach Club.

  1. Daytime relaxation:Read or nap on a sun lounger by the pool.
  2. Activity Experience:SUP, beach yoga, snorkeling, and other ways to get in touch with the ocean.
  3. Sunset & Night Party:DJ events and cocktail hours from dusk.

*Story: The other day, I tried SUP yoga at a club in Bali and fell asleep by the pool afterwards…but the sunset music woke me up and I became the mood setter of the club!

💡 7 Things to Keep in Mind Before Enjoying Beach Clubs

  • Checking business status is a must!
First, make sure to check the official website and social networking sites to see if the club is open for business. Especially if there is a private party or a private event, even beach clubs that are usually open may be closed.
  • Advance ticket sales are the golden rule for special events.
Large dance parties and festivals are often quite expensive if you try to buy tickets on the day of the event on-site. It is a good idea to get tickets in advance online to save money and make your trip smoother.
  • Food and beverage credit” may be included in the admission fee.
More and more beach clubs these days are offering a set of credits that can be used for drinks and food with the admission fee. Think of it not as “just an admission fee,” but as a “discount meal ticket,” and it makes it easier to manage your budget.
  • Be careful with your belongings at the security check!
In most cases, food and drinks, including bottled drinks, are not allowed. Since there is a baggage inspection at the entrance, please make sure to clear your bag beforehand.
  • Loose dress code? Or strict?
Most clubs have a “no t-shirts or tank tops to show off your alcohol brand” rule. In addition, sandals and slippers are not allowed after 4:00 p.m. in some clubs. The rules may differ slightly for men and women, so check the dress code before you go!
  • Security inspection covers all bags
It is safer to assume that all baggage, including backpacks, shopping bags, and handbags, will be checked for contents. To ensure a smooth passage, it is best to keep valuables in an easily accessible place.
  • Daybeds with spectacular views must be reserved.
The most popular item at the Beach Club is the “daybed,” where you can relax in the best position at sunset. If you want to get one, make your reservation early. Please note that there is almost no guarantee that you will get it on the same day!

*I had my first beach club experience at a certain club. I popped in without a reservation and the place was packed… I was approached by a Westerner sitting next to me and we toasted together with share loungers, which we still laugh about to this day.

⚠️ What to look out for

  • Sun protection (sun oil & after sun lotion)
  • Valuables management (use of waterproof pouches and lockers)
  • Drinking control (and hydration as alcohol is often provided)
  • Clothing confirmation (dress code and exposure rules)
  • Weather check (understanding rain shelter spots in case of squalls)

*Sudden squalls forced us to take shelter in a covered area and enjoy the sound of the rain while sipping Bali coffee, a memory unique to the Beach Club.
